Our incredible mentors have been taking time at home to channel their creativity toward some exciting projects and competitions. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on three talented artists and designers from the LCI Melbourne community.

Keep reading to see what Magda, Pari and Rebecca have been up to!

Magdalena Czapiewska

Magda is an interior architect, academic mentor and entrepreneur. She has established herself within the world of interiors and design, co-founding the Designlab studio in Poland and working with a range of international companies. In 2012, Magda not only began working as an academic at LCI Melbourne, but was also awarded the Young Creative Entrepreneur Award from the British Council.

Recently, Magda was shortlisted in the Dowel Jones ‘Design from Home’ Competition. The competition was organised to highlight and support talented local artists, designers and manufacturers. The shortlisted entrants were selected for their material choices, unique concepts and the ability to design and manufacture locally.

Magda’s kinetic home piece aimed to reflect the perception of passing time. Using an invisible clock mechanism, a circular disk and a magnetic indicator ball; the interactive piece strengthens our relationship with time. ‘Nou Time Keeping’ inspires reflection, meditation and presents an abstract way of looking at time.

Pari Mehr

Pari is a creative storyteller with a passion for exploring dynamic outlets. She uses various mediums such as, photography, illustration and graphic design; to capture timeless moments and create long lasting memories. Pari aims to capture raw and unique connections, through her images, inspired by compelling human emotions and her two beautiful daughters; Mila and Ruby.

For Pari, it’s all about hard labour vs. fairy dust! Some days creativity and inspiration flow organically and other days are full of creative blocks and hustling to complete projects. The key to Pari’s serenity and success is taking the burden off herself, by aiming to create goodness over greatness.

For the ‘Collab with Gorman’ competition, Pari’s two creative daughters played a crucial part in the inspiration and creation of her eclectic submission. Featuring organic shapes inspired by pebbles and all the colours of the rainbow, Pari’s artwork is influenced by nature in its many forms. Pari’s submission is still available for viewing in Gorman’s digital exhibition here!

Rebecca Gully

Rebecca Gully is a designer and educator, particularly interested in establishing a critical framework for fashion design teaching. Rebecca’s work places importance on cognition and design processes, combined with traditional and innovative skills for creating design artefacts.

Rebecca has recently joined the LCI Melbourne family as our sessional fashion mentor. She specialises in mid 20th century popular culture, clothing and performance garments. Contemporary fashion pedagogy and a circular industry has informed Rebecca’s design practice and framework, for sustainable fashion.

Rebecca was awarded the co-winner of the ‘We the Makers’ Design Festival competition. Her submission, Neutron Dance, is a creative and sustainable depiction of ‘what to wear to the disco apocalypse’. Rebecca has carefully curated a hyper-functional look with embedded versatility, using modular pieces; to increase wearability through reversible, adjustable and detachable components.
