Millinery: ”Over the Top” Millinery with Attidude

Over the Top!

If you want to make a statement, then this will be the class for you! In this short course, milliner Richard Nylon will give you guidance for how to make a superb headwear creation, suitable for nightclub and festival wear. Students will be encouraged to bring any materials they like to class and will learn how to incorporate these materials into their work. “Over the Top” will be a fun and highly creative class where the making will take place in an atmosphere of mutual learning.

Course Objectives

During this course you will learn how to :

  • Design and make a spectacular headpiece
  • Make a stable base for your headpiece
  • Make sure your headpiece stays on your head
  • Use stitching, both hand and machine (when appropriate)to construct your headpiece
  • Utilise glues and stiffener (when appropriate) to construct your headpiece
  • Correct use of wiring to make sure your trimmings stay intact.

Richard’s distinctive designs often utilise unconventional approaches to materials and methods and naturally challenge  traditional millinery practices. With over twenty five years of experience in high fashion and theatrical millinery, Richard has developed expert knowledge of all aspects of the craft; paired with his enthusiasm and generosity, he is an outstanding teacher.
