Applications

What is the deadline for applications?

We accept applications right up until the start of each Trimester provided there are still places available.

Other key dates, such as semester study periods and breaks, are available from our Calendar page.

What if I can't attend an interview for assessment?

We can arrange to conduct interviews by skype to assess your portfolio based on scanned or photographed images.

What should I include in my Portfolio?

Please see our Interview & Portfolio Guide website section, which contains information about our selection criteria, and the ideal contents of a Portfolio.

LCI Melbourne holds free Folio Presentation Workshops to help you select and present your work in the most effective manner. For the next event, please see our Events page.

If some of your work is unavailable - for example, if it is currently being marked for your VCE - we simply recommend that you bring in examples of the best work you can access.

I want to study Design but I'm not sure which major study to apply for; can you advise me?

The Bachelor of Design Arts enables students to experience introductory units in six major study streams and to pursue studies in their sub-major program to second year level. This means you get to explore Design from a number of perspectives.

If you change your mind about your preferred major study, you may apply to change programs at any time in the degree program. (Please note, however, that if you have already made significant progress in one major study, switching majors may extend the length of your degree.)

If you have looked at our major study program information and are still uncertain about which major to apply for, send an Information Request.

Can I speak with an LCI Melbourne Admissions Advisor about my application?

Yes. Our Admissions Advisors are available Monday to Friday. Please contact the Office on +61 3 9676 9000.

Does LCI Melbourne offer RPL to mature-aged students?

Yes. If you can demonstrate that you have the knowledge, skills and experience required to satisfy the specified unit outcomes, you will be granted Recognition of Prior Learning.

If I have studied a related course at another institution, can I transfer to LCI Melbourne Degree?

Yes. If you successfully completed studies at one of LCI Melbourne's affiliates, you will be guaranteed a place at LCI Melbourne and automatically receive credit for your previous studies.

If you studied at another registered provider and successfully completed an accredited qualification or units related to your proposed major study in the Bachelor of Design Arts, you will be eligible to apply for credit.

For more information see Credit Transfer & RPL.

Should I apply as a Domestic or an International student?

If you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or you have a Permanent Residency visa, you are classed as a Domestic student. (Please note, however, that unless you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent 'humanitarian' visa, you will not be eligible for FEE-HELP and will have to pay your tuition fees up-front.)

All other applicants are considered International students and should apply as per the International section of our website.

Am I allowed to defer my studies?

Yes. LCI Melbourne's policy is to allow deferment for up to 12 months.

Students who have already commenced study

  • Domestic students who have accepted an offer, paid the administration fee and commenced classes, are eligible to defer for 12 months.
  • Applications to defer must be made on the official ‘Deferral or Leave Application Form’, which is emailed or submitted in person to the LCI Melbourne Student Services Office. This application is reviewed by Student Services and must be accepted in order for the student to defer. Students will be notified in writing as to whether the application to defer has been accepted or denied.
  • To avoid being financially liable for the Trimester in which they have already commenced study, applications must be received and approved before census date. Applications received after the census date will make the student financially liable for the full trimester.

Applicants who receive an offer and wish to defer prior to starting study

  • Domestic students who have accepted an offer and paid the administration fee are eligible to defer for up to 12 months. They are guaranteed a place in the following year*
  • Applications to defer must be made on the official ‘Deferral or Leave Application Form’, which is emailed or posted to the LCI Melbourne Admissions Office. This application is reviewed by the Admissions Office and must be accepted by LCI Melbourne in order for the student to defer. Applicants will be notified in writing as to whether the application to defer has been accepted or denied.

* no guarantee is made that the same program will be available in the following academic year.

International Students

  • International students are eligible to defer only in compassionate or compelling circumstances.
  • A ‘Deferral or Leave Application Form’ must be submitted with supporting documentation of the circumstances to Student Services. It must be received and approved, by the Enrolment Deadline (i.e. before the Trimester start date). Applicants will be notified in writing as to whether the application to defer has been accepted or denied.
