LCI Melbourne’s first year Communication Design students gained insight into the world of creative advertising at the new home of M&C Saatchi in South Melbourne recently.
Students were met by the MD and alumni, Jesse Birthisel (2016) and Trent Bucknell (2017), who both scored jobs at the prestigious advertising agency soon after graduation. Jesse and Trent shared highlights from M&C Saatchi’s successful campaigns, and spoke about their own experiences of the industry.
Students were keen to know the difference between studying Comm Design, and actually working in industry.
“We’re not individuals anymore, we’re a team,” said Jesse.
Co-ordinator of the Communication Design program at LCI Melbourne, Donna O’Neil, was able to arrange the tour as she makes a point of staying in touch with past students.
“That’s the difference here at LCI Melbourne,” O’Neil says. “We’re a community. I’m genuinely interested in following the success of my past students’ careers, and they’re always open to sharing their knowledge and expertise with current students.”
As one of the top creative agencies in Australia, producing over 6000 pieces of ad design in just six months, M&C Saatchi is an aspirational place for our graduates to work, and our students to visit.
In the spirit of reconciliation LCI Melbourne acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
LCI Melbourne pay respects to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people and acknowledges them as the Traditional Owners of the land on which our campus is situated. We recognise this as a place of special significance for the Indigenous community.
We pay our respect to Elders past and present and future. Indigenous sovereignty has never been ceded.
