'Worlds' brings together a cross section of works that Peck has held onto from exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Los Angeles over the past 20 years. Seen together, Peck’s body of work can be loosely linked by the viewer; witnessing the evolution of his art and themes over time.

Peck uses children in his artwork to create an immediate connection to the viewer, who can relate to the experience of being a child themselves. It is a theme he was drawn to as a young artist – but since becoming a father it has taken on new layers of meaning in his work. He now uses his children, as well as those of friends’, as characters in his artwork.

Peck says “There’s something almost tangible which surrounds kids: where they are protected but vulnerable at the same time. They come into a world that is dangerous, and have to navigate their way through it into adulthood.”

Peck’s work has been described as capturing “that moment of optimism which may be ruptured by a tragic awareness of its transitory state”. There is a pervasive sense of brooding at the edges of the viewer’s consciousness, coupled with what may, conversely, be optimism. In Peck’s delicate lines and bold colours, it’s left to the viewer to feel whether the cusp between childhood and adulthood is to be feared or embraced.
